A message from Roger Smith, New England Energy Program Director
Connecticut’s 2012 legislative session ended on May 9th without action to continue heating oil conservation programs. Despite strong support from the public, home energy contractors, environmental and consumer groups, and businesses, unrelated political disputes kept heating oil legislation from being voted on.
As a result, on May 18th CL&P joined UI in no longer offering rebates to oil customers for insulation and windows. CL&P announced a hard deadline of June 22nd after which oil and propane customers can no longer sign up for Home Energy Solutions. We need you to join us today to help us save conservation programs for oil heat customers! Take action today.
With heating oil prices near $4 per gallon, we need to ensure oil customers can participate in the Home Energy Solutions program, as well as receive rebates and low-interest loans for energy saving improvements like insulation. There is a legislative fix to ensure that oil customers can benefit from any contributions they make to the Efficiency Fund on their electric bills, and that fix will keep the programs going.
We have one last chance to make this happen. There is an upcoming “special session” on June 12th regarding the state budget and jobs. We need you to contact your legislators and key legislative leaders to ensure that fixing heating oil conservation is part of the deal!
Thanks for your continued support,
