Trashy Fashions on the runway again at FEDC

This is our 14th year at Fairfield Earth Day Celebration, which is co-chaired by our Director of Solid Waste and Recycling, Mike Zembruski, and Larry Kaley, chair of our Clean Energy Task Force and former RTM member.   In almost all of those years we have had an amazing event called Trashy Fashions in which our high school fashion students, taught by Nancy Malafatopoulos, awarded 2010 National Teacher of the Year by the American Association of Family & Consumer Sciences (AAFCS).  These students produce beautiful haute couture ensembles that would be the pride of any designer’s runway.  We also have elementary students enrolled in Roots & Shoots, a program started by world-renowned anthropologist, Jane Goodall in 1991 and is now in 120 countries.  Our own Mei-Ling Uliasz, who runs the program at Burr Elementary School, worked with Ms. Goodall and through Roots and Shoots helps the children to learn about making positive change happen.

Our event is being held on April 28 at Fairfield Warde High School, 755 Melville Avenue, 10am-4pm.  We’ll have great food, live music and magic shows, presentations and round table discussions, and approximately 100 exhibitors.  Admission is FREE!  Hope you’ll join us!
